Mother-Daughter Team Selected For 4-H Conference

Nicole Darty, a Post Falls resident and senior at North Idaho Christian School, has been selected as one of five Idaho member delegates to attend the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C., in April.

Darty, who will be chaperoned on the trip by her mother, Myra, was selected to attend the conference based on a 4-H project, leadership activities and a commitment to share knowledge learned from the experience. A $400 scholarship from the State 4-H Endowment Fund will help her to attend the conference.

Myra, a family resource specialist at Post Falls Middle and High School, also will receive a scholarship to attend the conference.

Last year the mother and daughter team was instrumental In organizing a St. Jude’s Saddle Up Ride (trail ride-a-thon) for a Mountain Gem 4-H Club Community Pride Project and raised over $2,000 for children’s cancer research.

Hanna Smith and Hank Little, both of Rathdrum, Idaho, have been selected to attend the 4-H Know Your Government Conference next month in Boise.

The conference is designed to help eighth- and ninth-graders gain a better understanding of governmental processes.

Members will learn what is involved in bringing a case to court, how the state judicial system and government decision-making process works and how teens can politically influence state government. Participants will also observe the legislative process in action and have a chance to meet legislators, judges and elected officials.

Highlights will include a mock legislative session, breakfast with legislators and judges and a tour of the Capitol.

Todd Little, Hank’s father, will attend the conference as a chaperone.
