Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer and author, is scheduled to speak Feb. 10 at Eastern Washington University.

Kennedy, the son of slain Sen. Robert Kennedy, will speak at 7:30 p.m. at Showalter Auditorium in Cheney on the topic of “Our Environmental Destiny.”

The speech will be free and open to the public.

In recent years Kennedy has prosecuted polluters along the Hudson River and Long Island Sound in New York. He has argued for greater citizen access to shorelines and has gone to court supporting laws requiring sewage plants to meet Clean Water Act standards.

He serves as the chief prosecuting attorney for Hudson Riverkeeper and a senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council.

His father was assassinated in California in 1968 following his victory speech the night of the Democratic presidential primary.
