Ferris Gymnasts Bring Gsl Title Back Home After 19-Year Absence

Ferris wrapped up its first Greater Spokane League gymnastics title since 1980 by scoring 170.75 points during a four-way meet at Rogers on Thursday.

The Saxons finished 23-1 to edge out Central Valley (22-2). Ferris was GSL champion or co-champion from 1977-80 but waited 19 years for its next title.

Ferris senior Filicity Frederick won Thursday’s all-around title, scoring 34.175 points to edge teammate Ivy Plewman (33.925), a junior.

Ferris senior Gail Larsen won the floor exercise (9.5) and balance beam (9.0). North Central’s Amber Baines, third in the all-around, won the uneven bars (8.75) and vault (8.55).

Shadle Park edged NC at the meet to finish 13-11 in league, tied with Mead for fourth place. NC finished 11-13 in league and Rogers was 2-22.

Boys basketball

Moscow 63, CdA 26 Moscow used a halfcourt press to chalk up a Border League win at Coeur d’Alene.

CdA was cold from the start, missing its first three layups, and finished 11 of 40 from the field.

Ryan Harms, a 5-foot-8, 165-pound All-Great Northern League wide receiver and defensive back for Pullman, has made an oral commitment to play football at Eastern Washington University this fall.

Harms, who had not played football since his freshman year, averaged just over 27 yards per catch and made 10 touchdown receptions for the Greyhounds, who finished 9-2 after losing in the first round of the State AA playoffs.
