WASHINGTON

ADAMS COUNTY Lind

The Lind Rodeo arena will be improved. Debris was removed to make way for a new cook shack and metal bleachers. The Lions Club is doing the bulk of the work.

FERRY COUNTY Republic

In the final stages of implementing enhanced 911 services, the county has hit a major snag. Inland Communications, the company contracted to upgrade the entire system, has gone out of business. Some of the equipment for the project has been obtained from Inland. The county hopes to contract with a company that hired Inland workers familiar with the project.

GRANT COUNTY Moses Lake

The Moses Lake School Board refuses to budge on the middle school dress code, implemented two years ago to improve behavior. Teachers are asking the board to rescind the code, saying they have to spend too much time as fashion police.

LINCOLN COUNTY Wilbur

Ground was broken recently on Habitat for Humanity’s first Wilbur home. Ben and Becky Peterson will be the owners after putting in hundreds of hours of work alongside Habitat volunteers. The three-bedroom, 1,200-square-foot home will be just south of the old WHS football field.

PEND OREILLE COUNTY Usk

Fishing season at Browns Lake and South Skookum Lake featured closed campgrounds because of heavy snow. The public was welcome to walk into both sites, but until roads dry up and become passable, the campgrounds will remain closed.

SPOKANE COUNTY Spokane

The children at Keystone Elementary School will have their own version of the Lilac Parade on Wednesday. Children will make their own mini-floats out of shoeboxes. “It was started to encourage the children to be community-minded,” teacher Kathie Kaylor said. “So many of them have never seen the parade, so this brings a little bit of it to them.”

STEVENS COUNTY Colville

The Farmer’s Market is open in Colville. Operating Wednesdays through spring and summer, it is in the Stevens County Public Works parking lot. Offerings include vegetables, flowers, herb starts, shrubs and fruit trees.

WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman

Pullman Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Constantine Alexander resigned, citing differences with the chamber board of directors. Alexander was hired last June to help improve the financial status of the chamber, raise awareness and increase public membership.

BENEWAH COUNTY Plummer

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe is seeking volunteers for its Lake Management Board. The board will consist of three tribal members and two nontribal members and oversee all matters concerning the tribe’s management of the lower part of Lake Coeur d’Alene and part of the St. Joe River. BONNER COUNTY Sandpoint

The East Bonner County Library awarded the contract for the Sandpoint Library to a Spokane construction firm Thursday. Kop Construction is expected to begin building the library this month. Kop submitted a base bid of $2,260,664 and 245 days to build the library. The bid total was $2,358,114 with alternate additions.

BOUNDARY COUNTY Bonners Ferry

The Region I Public Transportation Advisory Committee will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Coeur d’Alene. The agenda includes public transit issues, grant status, and a presentation from the Division of Environmental Quality. The meeting will be in the Transportation Department conference room.
