Eastern Sweeps Past Gonzaga; Maxwell Surpasses 3,000 Assists
Eastern Washington made quick work of Gonzaga in their non-conference women’s volleyball match, winning 15-1, 15-12, 15-3 at Reese Court in Cheney on Tuesday night as Kim Maxwell surpassed 3,000 career assists.
Maxwell had 26 assists, two more than the Gonzaga team, in the victory for EWU (13-3) to finish with 3,025. She is one of only 13 players in Big Sky Conference history to go over 3,000.
The Eagles had a hitting percentage of .262 while Gonzaga (4-11) was at minus .029 with three more errors than kills.
The 2-hour and 10-minute match was witnessed by 1,004.
* Whitman rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Whitworth in five games in a Northwest Conference match at Walla Walla.
Whitworth (6-9, 3-4) was led by Abby Hornstein’s 12 kills on a .237 hitting percentage. Teammate Lindsey Wagstaff also had 12, but on .057 hitting. Nicole Weedman had 40 assists.
Whitman is 9-8, 5-2.
Golf
The University of Idaho women’s golf team finished fourth out of 11 teams at the Huskie Classic played at the Oak Club in Genoa, Ill.
