The Greater Spokane League volleyball playoff chase could become an eight-team scramble for six spots.

Katie Hirst had 15 kills and four blocks Tuesday, helping East Valley to a 15-10, 12-15, 15-9, 15-13 win over visiting North Central in a match that may have big repercussions.

EV, NC and Gonzaga Prep, which lost Tuesday, are tied for fifth place at 3-3. The top six teams qualify for district playoffs.

Tuesday also included a win for Rogers (2-5), which has a chance to figure in the playoff race because of upcoming matches with G-Prep and EV.

Lindsay Murphy had seven kills and 12 digs in Mead’s 3-0 win at G-Prep. Prep had leads of 11-4 and 14-9 in the third game. Mead (5-1) has upcoming matches with undefeated Ferris and Lewis and Clark (4-2), which was idle Tuesday… . Shadle Park (7-0) continued to set the pace, with a 3-0 win over visiting University. Krissy Forry served 12 consecutive points in the second game, when Katie Schurra had four blocks. Shadle’s Ashley Lynn and Katie McCaffrey combined for 21 assists… . Shayla Bush had 14 kills and 17 digs as Ferris (6-0) defeated visiting Mt. Spokane 3-1 on coach Stacey Ward’s birthday. Ferris had nine hitting errors when Mt. Spokane won the third game. Ferris has won 64 of its last 65 league matches… . Rogers had two aces to complete a 15-12 first-game win, and overcame a 7-1 deficit in the second game for a 3-0 win at Central Valley. Taneisha Tilque led Rogers in kills, aces, digs and blocks.

* Katie Fondell’s eight kills and 11 digs helped Colville (4-2) to a 3-0 win at West Valley that moved the Indians into third place in the Border League… . Also in the league, Jessica Vasquez and Kaci Thol combined to serve 26 of 26 as Moscow (6-0) defeated visiting Coeur d’Alene 16-14, 4-15, 15-4 and remained tied with Sandpoint for first place. Moscow plays at Sandpoint Thursday… . Sandpoint rolled to a 2-0 win at Post Falls. Erin Murphy had 11 assists and eight digs for the Trojans (3-4)… . Mary Beth Spencer totaled 15 kills and five blocks in Lewiston’s 15-11, 15-9, 10-15, 5-15, 15-11 win at Cheney… . Clarkston (1-5) roared back for a 4-15, 1-15, 15-8, 15-8, 15-10 win at Lake City (3-4).

* Bridget Ryan served the final five points of the first game and Lori VanHook served the last five of the match in Lakeside’s 3-0 win over visiting Chewelah in the Great Northern League. Jen Barcus and Katie Tikker of Lakeside (6-0) combined for 28 kills. Chewelah led the final game 8-4 but lost 15-13… . Also in the league, Marissa Greene totaled 13 kills and 12 digs as visiting Medical Lake (4-2) defeated Riverside 3-1 to move past Chewelah into third place.

Girls soccer

Zoe Davies had two goals and one assist during the first 13 minutes, and Cheney (7-3, 5-2) cruised to a 5-0 home win over Post Falls in the Border League. The Blackhawks led 5-0 at the half, and switched around positions in the second half… . Also in the league, Janee Andre’s two second-half goals lifted Coeur d’Alene (8-0) to a 3-1 win over visiting Sandpoint… . Hayley Shortridge and Katie Quinn scored three goals apiece to guide Lake City (6-1) to an 8-0 win over Lakeland at Rathdrum. Quinn also had her team-high ninth assist… . Usual goalkeeper Jenelle Andrews had one goal and two assists in the second half of Lewiston’s 9-0 win at Clarkston.

* Molly Neill converted a 1-on-1 play when the defender fell down, lifting Pullman (4-1) to a 1-0 win at Lakeside (3-2) in the Great Northern League… . Also in the GNL, Kelly Ostby moved up front to fill in for an injured Larissa Mueller, and finished with three goals and one assist as Riverside (5-0) defeated visiting Chewelah 8-0… . Jackie McCall rebounded her miss and scored midway through the second half to give Medical Lake a 1-0 win over visiting Deer Park. ML goalkeeper Natalie Wilson preserved the shutout with a diving save on a 13-yard shot.

Cross country

Defending boys league champion Lakeside placed four runners in the top five to defeat Medical Lake in a Great Northern League opener at Nine Mile Falls Elementary. Robby Miller of ML was the champion by 43 seconds, completing the 3 miles in 16 minutes, 38 seconds. Lakeside’s girls also defeated ML, placing 1-2-3 with Lisa Erickson (20:42) out front… . Also in the GNL, champions Morgan Johnson (18:56) and Sarah Bell (22:14) led Newport over Deer Park on the 3.1-mile course at Newport High… . On their 3.1-mile home course at Bear Lake County Park, Riverside’s boys and girls defeated Pullman and Chewelah. The Rams also had the day’s champions, Wink Hodgson (17:51) and Katie Prichard (21:28). Riverside’s girls finished second in league last year to Colville, which is now in the Frontier/Border League.
