Moscow Gets Big Victory

Moscow’s Jessica Vasquez and Kaci Thol helped serve up a big Border League volleyball win over visiting Coeur d’Alene Tuesday night.

Vasquez and Thol combined to serve 26 of 26 as the Bears prevailed 16-14, 4-15, 15-4 and remained tied with Sandpoint for first place at 6-0. Moscow plays at Sandpoint Thursday.

Laurie Gregg added 13 kills and 19 digs, and Courtney Goetz 17 kills for the Bears. CdA is 4-3.

Also in the Border League, Clarkston (1-5) roared back for a 4-15, 1-15, 15-8, 15-8, 15-10 win at Lake City (3-4). LC’s Rachel Mogen had 19 kills and four blocks. … Sandpoint rolled to a 15-6, 15-1 win at Post Falls. Erin Murphy had 11 assists and eight digs for the Trojans (3-4)… . Katie Fondell’s eight kills and 11 digs helped Colville (4-2) to a 3-0 win at West Valley.

* St. Maries (19-3, 6-0) defeated host Priest River 2-0 to begin the second half of its Intermountain League schedule. Mary Lemm and Angie Turner had eight kills apiece for Priest River… . Also in the IML, Megan Egbert and Jessica Austad had eight kills apiece, and Anika Duvall added 12 digs and 15 assists in Lakeland’s 15-9, 2-15, 15-8 win over visiting Bonners Ferry. Shannon Kirkpatrick served 10 for 10, with three aces, for Lakeland (11-8, 6-1).

* Mullan (6-5, 2-1) defeated visiting Kootenai 2-1 in the North Star League. Jocelyn Flint had 10 digs for Kootenai.

* Sunni Jo Mullen served 15 for 15, including three aces, and added four kills in Lakeside’s 2-0 non-league win over Falls Christian at Plummer. Kaela Moore added 27 assists for Lakeside (11-7)… . Wallace (12-6) rallied to a 4-15, 15-13, 15-11 win at Timberlake in another non-leaguer. Jackie Hedding had seven kills and Casi Reisenauer seven digs for Timberlake.

Girls soccer

Janee Andre’s two second-half goals lifted Coeur d’Alene (12-0-2, 8-0) to a 3-1 Border League win over visiting Sandpoint. Fullback Becca Schmidt and sweeper Casey Joyner controlled the tempo for CdA… . Also in the league, Hayley Shortridge and Katie Quinn scored three goals apiece to guide Lake City (9-1-1, 6-1) to an 8-0 win over Lakeland at Rathdrum. Quinn also had her team-high ninth assist… . Zoe Davies had two goals and one assist during the first 13 minutes, and Cheney (7-3, 5-2) cruised to a 5-0 home win over Post Falls… . Usual goalkeeper Jenelle Andrews had one goal and two assists in the second half of Lewiston’s 9-0 win at Clarkston.

Boys soccer

George Cary had his first hat trick, and added an assist to his three goals, in Lake City’s 7-0 non-league win over visiting Bonners Ferry.

* Moscow (8-3, 6-3) scored off a crossing pass at 75 minutes to edge host Lewiston 1-0 in the North Idaho League. The Bengals (2-7-2, 1-6-2) missed two shots at an open goal.
