Woman Fights Off Attempted Rape

A woman in her 30s fought off an attacker Monday night in what police called an apparent attempted rape.

At 6:45 p.m. Monday, the victim was walking near Lyons and Winston in northwest Spokane when she heard footsteps behind her. When she heard the person start running, she turned and was tackled and knocked into a rock garden. She began choking the man and he removed his grip. She then screamed and the man ran off, police said.

The woman said the attacker was a white, ruddy-faced male in his late teens. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds with brown shaved hair. He may have been wearing braces on his teeth.
