University High quarterback Brandon Frost admitted to doubts after his team fell behind Ferris 14-13 with 8:55 left in the game.

“I think really bad things,” he said. “But once I get on the field, all those thoughts go away and I just think we need to get a first down, get a touchdown and win.”

Frost did just that by engineering a 60-yard drive that kept the Titans unbeaten after four Greater Spokane League games.

Though he would be the first to admit he hasn’t done it alone, Frost has made the ultimate difference for U-Hi this season.

Frost, the league’s second-leading passer, completed 13 of 21 passes for 153 yards against a team that had given up just 33 previous yards through the air. He had quarterback-draw runs of 13 and 12 yards.

Two of Frost’s leading receivers were sidelined by injuries. Backups caught eight balls for 93 yards. On the winning drive, Frost completed four straight and threw a block that sprang Anthony Buchanan on a key change-of-field 15-yard reverse.

Then he sweated out one last Ferris threat that ended on the U-Hi 4-yard-line with 1:13 to go.

“It was shaky but we’ll take this,” Frost said. “We deserved this. We deserve to be 4-0 right now.”
