Car Chase Ends With Arrest
An intoxicated driver led police on a car chase that careened through downtown Spokane Sunday morning at speeds topping 55 miles per hour, Spokane police spokesman Dick Cottam said.
The car ran two red lights on Monroe at Broadway and Main and ran stop signs at First, Second and Third avenues, Cottam said. The car finally stopped at Fourth and Madison, where police arrested the driver, Cottam said.
The driver readily admitted she was intoxicated, which police confirmed with a blood alcohol test, Cottam said. Police reported that the motorist’s alcohol level was more than twice the limit allowed in Washington.
Cheney resident Lynda K. Merriman, 54, was booked into jail on a charge of attempting to elude police, a felony.
Additional counts may be filed, Cottam said.
