Child Rape, Porn Counts Added To Voyeurism Charge Suspect Was First Jailed After Incident In Men’S Bathroom At Sta Plaza

A man originally arrested on a voyeurism charge has now been charged with six felony child rape and pornography counts, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department.

Donald R. Curbow, 42, was arrested Sept. 21 by Spokane Police on a voyeurism charge related to an incident in the men’s bathroom at the STA Plaza, Sheriff’s spokesman Dave Wiyrick said.

Sheriff’s detectives later came across information indicating Curbow had possession of child pornography in his room at a Valley nursing home. A search warrant was executed and child pornography was recovered.

The investigation discovered and identified an 11-year-old male victim from Spokane.

Investigators believe Curbow has been in the area for about a year, Wiyrick said. He was listed as a homeless transient and at some point required medical attention. He underwent surgery and state welfare agencies put him in the Valley nursing home to convalesce, Wiyrick said.

After some time, his medical welfare ran out and he had to leave the nursing home, Wiyrick said. When nursing home staff cleaned out his room, they found evidence of child pornography in photos and on video, he said.

On Wednesday, while in jail on the voyeurism charge, Curbow was charged with rape of a child, two counts of child molestation, sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct and failure to register as a sex offender.

Curbow has two 1995 sex crime convictions in Oregon for attempted sexual abuse of a minor. When released from 18 months in confinement in Oregon, Curbow failed to register as a sex offender and violated parole by leaving the state without permission, Wiyrick said.

Curbow also failed to register with the Spokane County Sheriff’s department.
