Coldwater Creek To Close Three Stores
Coldwater Creek will close three of its outlet stores, following a surge in Internet sales.
The catalog retailer said it sold $2 million in merchandise in September over its Web site, coldwatercreek.com. A year ago, the company Web site generated just $25,000 in sales.
Coldwater Creek’s 12 outlet stores were created to sell clearance items. Now those items can be sold over the Internet, without the store overhead costs, said spokesman David Gunter.
Company officials have not determined which three outlet stores will close by February. The move will not affect Coldwater Creek’s plans to open full-line retail stores in Seattle and Kansas City next month.
Coldwater Creek expanded its Web site this summer, offering its entire catalog inventory. The company sells women’s clothing, jewelry, gifts and home accessories.
