Gillen Scores Five For Ccs
Jake Gillen scored a season-high five goals Wednesday as the Community Colleges of Spokane routed Walla Walla Community College 7-0 in an NWAACC soccer match at SFCC.
Gillen, a Ferris High School graduate, scored the Sasquatch’s first five goals and fell shy of matching the school record of eight, set by Kevin Mosher in 1996.
Bryan Veal and Ryan Reed also scored and Sau’l Mendoza finished with three assists.
The win improved CCS to 7-0-1 while Walla Walla slipped to 2-4-1.
Golf
Jim Coleman of Priest River shared seventh place with a 54-hole total of 214 as Michael Combs of Walla Walla won the Cascade Golf Tour championship.
Coleman finished with a 70.
Nancy Garrett of Spokane’s Downriver Golf Club shot a final-round 83 for a total of 168 to finish 11th in the PNGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Hayden Lake. Judy Dobson of Hayden Lake finished at 171.
Women’s soccer
Coby Meikle scored at 82:40 as North Idaho College tied visiting Columbia Basin College 2-2 in an NWAACC match.
CBC (7-0-1, 3-0-1) scored the first two goals before NIC (6-0-1, 1-0-1) answered. The Cardinals’ Heather Hayes cut the visitors’ lead to 2-1 at 80:20. Meikle assisted on the play.
