Indians Seek Sponsor For Stadium

Seafirst Bank recently became Bank of America.

Seafirst Stadium, however, won’t become Bank of America Stadium.

The Spokane Indians announced Wednesday afternoon that their baseball park is dropping the name Seafirst and looking for a new sponsor.

The Indians’ facility has been called Seafirst Stadium since 1994.

Bank of America’s new corporate strategy usually precludes lending its name to stadiums and arenas. The bank prefers to support teams and communities through sponsorships.

The Indians said a new sponsor is a must.

“The stadium title sponsorship is a great program for our community,” said Indians owner Bobby Brett. “By putting a corporate name on the stadium, we have found a way to do additional stadium improvements without raising ticket prices or using taxpayers’ money to pay for improvements.”

Those improvements have included a new sound system, repaving the concourse, heating and air conditioning in the administrative building, a new information booth and a new coat of paint each season.
