New Latah Creek Plaza Will Offer Space For Shops In/Around: Latah Creek Valley

A new 7,700-square-foot retail building, known in the industry as a retail pad, will house five small businesses in front of the Tidyman’s store on the Cheney-Spokane Road.

The new building is under construction now.

Dave Black, managing partner for the shopping center’s owner, said the new building should be completed and ready for tenants in mid-January.

The signed tenants so far include a veterinarian, a tack-and-gift shop and a Great Clips hair shop.

The Foxy Horse and Hound tack-and-gift shop is leasing space temporarily on 29th Avenue near Southeast Boulevard but will move into the Latah Creek center when the building is completed.

Shop owner Carolyn Bohlman said she selected the Latah Creek development because it is centrally located for a lot of her customers in southwest Spokane County.

However, she said she needed a shop now to get keep her business going, which is why she is opening in the temporary quarters on 29th Avenue on Monday.

Previously, she ran her shop at the Marshland Equestrian Center, but a fire last winter led to her decision to open a store in a retail location. She also operates the equestrian center, on Gardner Road south of Marshall Her new tack shop in the Latah Creek Plaza will be housed in a 1,200-square-foot space.

She said there are probably 10 horse arenas within about 10 miles of the shop, which will be near U.S. Highway 195.

“I figured it was a good location,” said Bohlman.

“It’s really building up out here.”

Black said he has two more leases to negotiate. He is trying to reach agreements with a dry cleaner and a pizza outlet.

Bernardo-Wills Architects designed the building. The contractor is Shea Construction Inc.

The shopping center is owned by the Latah Creek Plaza LLC. Black is the managing member of Latah Creek Plaza.

The center is being managed by Tomlinson-Black Management Inc. The marketing agent is Tomlinson-Black Commercial Inc.

Black is chief executive for both of those firms.
