A year after combining its 911 dispatch center with the city, Bonner County is hiring a radio frequency engineer to study the system and make recommendations on how to improve it.

County Commissioners Brian Orr and Dale Van Stone voted to hire Mountain Communications Inc. to analyze the technical aspects of the dispatch system, which reportedly has inadequate coverage in the county.

The company is proposing to undertake a six-phase study and charge the county $1,000 for each phase. The result could be a recommendation to make expensive upgrades to the equipment that the county and participating agencies use.
