Guest Conductor Helps Bring Beethoven To Symphony Fans

Peter McCoppin is the Spokane Symphony’s guest conductor for a concert in the Opera House that will include Beethoven’s “Egmont” Overture and “Pastorale” Symphony. The much-traveled McCoppin is conductor laureate of the Victoria Symphony in British Columbia and music director of the Charlotte Symphony in North Carolina.

The concert will be repeated Saturday in Coeur d’Alene.

New York-born pianist Terrence Wilson will be the soloist in Grieg’s lyric and virtuosic Concerto in A minor. The 24-year-old Wilson made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at 16 and has since performed with many major orchestras.

McCoppin will discuss the music on tonight’s program in a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. in the Opera House auditorium.

The Spokane Symphony performs Friday at 8 p.m. at the Opera House, and repeats this concert in Coeur d’Alene at North Idaho College’s Schuler Auditorium at 8 p.m. Saturday.
