Sandpoint All Alone Atop Border League

Sandpoint and Moscow entered Thursday night’s Border League volleyball match with identical firstplace records.

There was nothing identical about the teams during the quick match at Sandpoint, a 15-8, 15-1 win for the host Bulldogs.

Rochelle Ruen had seven aces and three blocks for points, and Megan Lippi added five aces for Sandpoint (19-1, 7-0). The Bulldogs can wrap up a perfect league record with wins next week against West Valley (0-6) and Cheney (2-4).

Moscow (17-4, 6-1) still has tough Colville (4-2) left on its schedule.

Megan Egbert had 19 kills as Lakeland outlasted visiting Freeman 13-15, 15-10, 15-8, 17-15 in a non-league match. Anika Duvall of the Hawks added 43 assists and 21 digs.

Kellogg picked up a 2-0 road win at Timberlake in the Intermountain League. Timberlake’s Tiffany Miller served eight consecutive points, including three aces, in the 17-15 second game.

Falls Christian notched a 2-0 North Star League win over Kootenai at Harrison. Saralynn Donohoe and Jocelyn Flint had five digs apiece for Kootenai.

Sunni Jo Mullen had six kills and three aces as visiting Lakeside (4-4) defeated Potlatch 2-0 in the Central Idaho League. Lakeside’s Kristina McPeak added 29 assists and four digs.

Girls soccer

Casey Joyner’s goal on a penalty kick completed Coeur d’Alene’s 3-1 win over visiting Cheney (5-3) in the Border League. CdA (12-0-2, 8-0) is two wins away from a perfect league season… . Jesy Rosholt scored the final goal in Sandpoint’s 2-0 win at Post Falls (2-4-1). The Bulldogs (4-2) moved up to fourth place, ahead of Cheney… . Heidi Lyman had a hand in every goal as West Valley (2-3-1) defeated visiting Lewiston 3-2. Lyman assisted the tiebreaking goal and scored an insurance goal at 62:30.

Jamie Rizzuto had three goals within a span of 11 minutes in the second half, and visiting Riverside (6-0) defeated Lakeside 3-0 to stay atop the Great Northern League. Defenders Danielle Renz, Shelly Lucas and Leah Shearer helped blank the third-place Eagles (3-3)… . Also in the league, Sara Sheridan’s goal, her 13th in the last seven matches, lifted second-place Pullman (5-1) to a 1-0 win at Medical Lake… . Katie Moat scored on a free kick halfway through the second half, lifting Chewelah to a 1-0 win at Deer Park.

Boys soccer

Ian Leibbrandt scored twice as Moscow (9-3, 7-3) defeated visiting Post Falls 7-0 in the North Idaho League.

Football

Lakeside stopped a two-point conversion with 48 seconds left to clinch a 22-20 win over Prairie in a Central Idaho League game at Nez Perce.

Lakeside halfback Brandon Pluff threw a pair of touchdown passes to Leonard Johnson.

The teams had been tied for last place in the league, at 0-4.
