Locke Honors Scholarship Winners
Gov. Gary Locke honored more than 200 college students Friday in Spokane who are Washington Promise Scholarship recipients.
The ceremony was held in the Jundt Art Museum on Gonzaga University’s campus. Washington’s Promise Scholarship Program, proposed by Locke, was passed by the Legislature last spring and went into effect this fall. It provides $3,000 over a two-year period to roughly 7,200 Washington students who choose to attend any private or public college or university in the state.
Friday’s ceremony honored 95 students from Eastern Washington University, 51 from Whitworth College and 56 from Gonzaga.
Additionally, 200 Washington State University students received the scholarships this fall, as did 48 attending Community Colleges of Spokane.
