Payne Puts Hurt On Colfax

The second half of a football game is when the pain sets in. Or for Kettle Falls, it can be when the Payne sets up.

Jon Payne rushed for touchdowns of 14 and 45 yards in the fourth quarter Friday night, lifting Kettle Falls to a 28-7 win at Colfax in the Northeast A League.

Kettle Falls (4-1, 2-0) finished with 190 rushing yards and took advantage of six turnovers by Colfax (4-1, 1-1).

Colfax was held to 135 total yards. KF had no luck through the air, finishing 0 for 4, but took the lead on a blocked punt return in the third quarter.

Also in the NEA, Ben Holling rushed for 57 yards, threw for 54 and intercepted three passes in Liberty’s 6-0 win over visiting Freeman. Holling is 23 for 57 for 391 yards this season. B.J. Deviny of Liberty (2-3, 1-1) rushed 17 times for 79 yards. Derick Conley, who scored the game’s only TD, and Jake Holling also had interceptions for Liberty.

GREAT NORTHERN LEAGUE Riverside can’t hold that lineman

Lineman Jeff Nunamaker scored twice in the first quarter, on a fumble recovery and blocked punt, and Pullman (5-0, 2-1) went on to a 44-0 win over visiting Riverside. Pullman held the Rams to 15 total yards. Brian Zeches completed 9 of 18 for 247 yards and two TDs for the Greyhounds, and Lucas Svaren added 121 yards on 16 carries… . Roger Henry rushed for 126 yards and the go-ahead TD in the third quarter, and Deer Park (4-1, 2-1) defeated host Chewelah 21-14. Ty Thompson threw for the Stags’ other scores, and finished 12 of 28 for 218 yards. Chewelah (1-4, 0-3) gave up the ball on downs on its 6-yard line late in the fourth quarter… . Alexis Alexander rushed for 150 yards and three TDs on 10 carries, leading Medical Lake (3-2, 3-0) to a 42-0 win at Newport.

NORTHEAST B-11 Curtis’ catches, kick curse Republic

Alex Curtis caught an 11-yard TD pass in the second quarter, then converted the extra point as visiting Davenport (4-1, 2-1) edged Republic 7-6. Davenport’s Andy Schreck and Dallas Reed combined for 213 rushing yards on 30 carries. Schreck has rushed for 543 yards on 102 carries this season. For Republic, Eddie Olson rushed for 144 yards and a TD, and Kris Krohn had 60 receiving yards and 14 tackles… . Corey Damron rushed for 138 yards on 20 carries, and had all three scores on short runs as Selkirk (2-2, 2-1) defeated Springdale 19-0 at Ione. Damron also had a team-high 11 tackles… . Jeff Krause scored twice, and finished with 109 yards on 20 carries in Wilbur-Creston’s 28-13 win over Almira/ Coulee-Hartline at Wilbur. James Llewellyn added 42 yards on 13 carries for the Wildcats. Blinn Carstensen scored both Warriors TDs and finished with 64 yards on 11 carries. He has 279 yards this season.

NORTHEAST B-8 Young, Columbia roll on

Justin Young surpassed his effort from two weeks ago, running for 489 yards and five TDs on 43 carries in Columbia’s 66-52 win over Sprague-Harrington at Hunters. Young, who has 1,517 rushing yards in five games, piled up 477 two weeks ago against Falls Christian (Idaho) and has the No. 2 and 3 all-time games among the state’s Class B-8 runners, topped only by the 591 yards Nick Bates had for Colton in 1997. Columbia is 4-1, 3-1, and the Falcons dropped to 4-1, 4-1… . The league’s last unbeaten team is Inchelium (5-0, 5-0), which defeated visiting Curlew 45-12 on the strength of Jacolby Simpson’s arm. Simpson completed 7 of 11 for 211 yards and three TDs. David Tonasket added 146 yards and three TDs on 14 carries, and Chris Burch had eight solo tackles… . Clint Hull finished with four TD passes, completing 18 of 27 for 214 yards, and Pateros (2-2, 2-1) defeated visiting Odessa 38-26. Odessa attempted an onside kick trailing 30-26, but Pateros recovered and scored again while trying to run out the clock. Bobby Sapp of Pateros had eight catches for 123 yards and three TDs. Pat Good added 182 rushing yards. Odessa’s Shawn Smith rushed for 102 yards… . Jake Sattleen scored on three short TD runs, leading Cusick (3-2, 2-2) to a 47-6 win at Wellpinit.

SOUTHEAST B-11 Rich get Richard for DeSales

DeSales ran its winning streak to 15 games as Casey Richard rushed for 174 yards and four TDs on 22 carries during a 40-7 win at Waitsburg. Marshall Donnelly had five receptions for 70 yards and one TD for the Irish (4-0, 2-0). Curtis Johnson of the Cardinals (3-2, 1-2) completed 8 of 20 for 140 yards and the one TD… . Asotin (3-2, 3-0) defeated visiting TekoaOakesdale 34-13. … St. John-Endicott’s game at Pomeroy was postponed by a power outage. It set for 4 p.m. today.

SOUTHEAST B-8 Touchet takes sweet 17

Jose Godinez rushed for 155 yards on nine carries, and Tim Wagoner added five carries for 89 yards and three TDS, leading Touchet (5-0, 2-0) to a 47-12 win at Rosalia that extended the Indians’ winning streak to 17. Chris Thorson of Rosalia rushed for 375 yards on 12 carries… . Colton (5-0, 2-0) tuned up for Friday’s game at Touchet by whipping visiting Jubilee Christian 46-0.

NON-LEAGUE Hammond puts hammer down

Shane Hammond rushed for 80 yards and two TDs and completed 7 of 8 for 186 yards and another TD as LaCrosse-Washtucna (4-1) defeated Lind 50-0 at Washtucna. Dustin Colter added 149 yards and two TDS on 13 carries for the Tigercats… . Lethbridge (Alberta) beat Garfield-Palouse 42-14 at Palouse. Gar-Pal’s Jason Fox passed for 111 yards, 91 to Mitch Kriebel.
