Update: Three Teams Will Go
The North Idaho Soccer League for boys will send three teams to state after all, a state official confirmed Thursday.
A third state berth for District I (North Idaho) was held in limbo after it was discovered last week that Lakeland hadn’t registered with the Idaho Youth Soccer Association, the governing body for the high school and club sport.
Lakeland registered Thursday morning, IYSA vice president and interim District I commissioner Jim Coleman said.
Had Lakeland not registered, the third state berth would have gone to District II (eastern Idaho).
Under IYSA rules, all players on high school teams must pay a $15 registration fee. The dues cover insurance, IYSA administrative fees and United States Soccer Federation membership.
The boys A-1 Region I state-qualifying tourney begins Tuesday.
This is the last year the IYSA governs the high school season. The Idaho High School Activities Association voted last month to sanction the sport and put on state tournaments beginning next fall.
