Ferris Turns Out The Lights On CV Saxons Learned A Lesson On Friday, Changed Tactics To Eliminate Bears

As quickly as the lights went out at Albi Stadium on Friday night, they came back on for Ferris on Monday afternoon.

Jake Doctor went 44 yards for a touchdown on Ferris’ first play and went on to score three more times and pile up 237 yards. The Saxons clubbed Central Valley 27-9 in a game that was continued from Friday when the lights went out little more than 4 minutes into the game.

“It’s all the offensive line,” Doctor said. It also helped that Ferris changed its game plan.

“Friday night, the defense was stacked against the option,” Doctor said. “We came out in isolation.”

Central Valley’s run of five straight playoff appearances is over, but Ferris is holding out hope for the fourth Greater Spokane League berth.

“They gave us a good look at what they were doing,” Saxons offensive lineman Matt Beck said. “There was a big difference in intensity.”

It probably didn’t help that students in the Central Valley district didn’t have classes Monday. While the Bears were sleep walking, Ferris was scoring on its first three possessions of the new game.

“We came out and decided to run at them,” Ferris coach Clarence Hough said. “The seven plays we ran Friday we had a hard time defining what they were in.”

Both teams face a quick turnaround for key games Friday. Central Valley is at University for its big rivalry game at 7. Ferris meets Mt. Spokane, the team tied with the Saxons a game behind Lewis and Clark, at Albi at 5:45.

“It makes for a short week, but it’s nice to get a win no matter when you play,” Hough said. “We’re at the same point, we’re rooting for someone else.”

If LC beats East Valley, winless in the GSL, the Tigers clinch the fourth playoff berth. LC has already defeated Ferris and Mt. Spokane.

“All we can do is win our games,” Beck said.

Doctor added, “We’re playing for pride and hoping East Valley can come up with something (to help us out).”
