‘Nypd’ Will Stay In Usual Time Slot

Producer Steven Bochco got his wish - almost. After a week of intrigue over a possible time-slot shift for his “NYPD Blue,” ABC has decided to leave the acclaimed drama in the Tuesday 10 p.m. berth. But its season premiere has been pushed back to Jan. 11.

ABC had considered moving “NYPD” out of the time slot it has occupied since its September 1993 debut in an effort to build a strong foundation for promising new drama “Once and Again.”

“Once and Again,” to which ABC gave a full season pickup on Friday, had been set for a six-week run in “NYPD’s” heavily trafficked time slot before “Blue’s” planned Nov. 9 season premiere.

Bochco raised a ruckus last week over the proposed move, accusing network brass of showing “disrespect” to the creative community and viewing public. ABC’s revised plan is to yank the Monday 10 p.m. edition of “20/20” in January to make room for “Once and Again.”
