Firefighters To Help Make Halloween Safer

From Staff Reports

Trick-or-treaters in Sandpoint can stop by the VFW Hall on Halloween to have their candy checked and pick up a glow stick from Sandpoint firefighters.

The firefighters union, Local 2319, is passing out light sticks to help make trick-or-treaters more visible, as well as checking treats with a metal detector. The firefighters also are passing out free batteries for home smoke detectors.

The candy check will start at 4 p.m. and last as long as needed, firefighters said. The VFW Hall is at 1325 Pine St.

Earlier in the day, downtown Sandpoint merchants are hosting a Downtown Trick-or-Treat from 1 to 4 p.m., with a costumed sidewalk parade at 3:30 p.m. beginning at the Panida Theater.

Window displays will identify shops as trick-or-treating sites.
