School Post Gets New Deadline
Coeur d’Alene School District trustees voted Monday to extend the application deadline to Aug. 21 for the vacant Zone 3 position.
The board has received three applications since trustee John Goedde resigned July 10 to pursue his Republican bid for state Senate.
The candidates to represent the northwestern part of the district are Tamy Kelly, Steve Kukuruza and Charles Zook.
Other applicants have until 5 p.m. Monday to apply. Applications must include a letter of intent, resume and three references. Send responses to the district office at 311 N. 10th St., Coeur d’Alene.
The board will interview candidates Aug. 28 and appoint the new trustee by Sept. 1.
The appointee will have to win the May 2001 school board election to retain the seat.
Also at Monday’s board meeting, Superintendent David Rawls outlined the district’s goals for the 2000-01 school year, emphasizing that Coeur d’Alene graduates should have the education to compete anywhere in the world.
Rawls said one other goal is to improve school safety. Rawls recently was appointed by Gov. Dirk Kempthorne to a statewide committee that will review school building codes. The group will be looking for ways to improve security.
Also on this year’s agenda is aligning the district’s curriculum with state standards and surveying graduates to find how well their education is serving them beyond high school.
