Cardinals, Bonner Keep Up Hot Pace

Steven Bonner scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds Saturday to propel the North Idaho Cardinals to a 92-77 victory over the Skagit Valley Cardinals at the Wenatchee Valley College men’s basketball tournament in Wenatchee.

Bonner, averaging well above 20 points per game, hit 12 of 17 shots from the floor.

Both teams lit it up in the second half. NIC, which bumped its record to 7-1, shot 66 percent (19 of 29) from the floor, while Skagit Valley hit 67 percent (18 of 27).

North Idaho, which led 47-33 at the half, outrebounded Skagit Valley 35-27 and had a 17-9 advantage on the offensive glass.

Marko Kandic finished with 16 points and eight rebounds for NIC. Winston Brooks dished out seven assists.

Joe Sundberg paced Skagit Valley with 17 points and five rebounds.
