Safari Club Benefit

Conservation

Items ranging from bird feeders to guided big-game hunts in Spain and Africa will be on the auction block to raise funds for wildlife conservation Feb. 12 at the Safari Club International Inland Empire Chapter’s benefit banquet.

This 18th annual event is the basic fund source for a long list of projects in the region, such as providing radio collars for moose, elk and cougar studies, capturing and relocating bighorns, buying robotic deer to aid in arresting poachers, banding birds for research, and building a handicapped accessible dock at West Medical Lake.

Although the local chapter keeps a fairly low profile, its members are active in many areas, including the Sportsmen Against Hunger program, which encourages hunters to donate a portion of their harvest to local food banks; the wildlife enhancement program, which is a contest to encourage landowners to improve the habitat on their property, and the handicapped hunter program, which provides hunting sites and assistance to handicapped hunters.

For information on making donations to the auction or the conservation programs, contact Dave Auble in Spokane, 928-4914.

The dinner and auction begin at 5 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Cavanaughs Inn at the Park. Tickets are available for $25 from Scott Justice, 8010 W. Owens Road, Deer Park, WA 99006, (509) 276-8267.
