Eye On Eagles
Birdwatching
Internet users can peek into the family life of bald eagles with a new video connection on the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department Web site.
A camera mounted by the nest in Kent, Wash., delivers live images updated every 12 seconds so viewers can watch the progress of eagles rearing their young.
Other planned attractions at www.wa.gov/wdfw include intimate views of a Spokane-area bat colony, a rookery of great blue herons and an underwater view of salmon returning to the Issaquah hatchery.
The project allows the public to enjoy a close wildlife encounter without physically intruding on the creatures’ natural environment.
The Kent family with the eagles’ nest in their backyard hope to remain anonymous to protect the nest. Drivers might be able to pick them out in traffic, though. One of their license plates reads “EGL LDY.”
