Of lost wives, Polish pals and movie shows
Listen to “Movies 101” tonight and you’ll miss something: the witty, intelligent comments of Mary Pat Treuthart . “Movies 101” is the show that Mary Pat and I do weekly on Spokane Public Radio (91.1 FM) with KPBX movie critic Bob Glatzer . And in the spirit of full disclosure, I’ll add that Mary Pat and I are married.
She isn’t around this week (producer Marty Demarest is sitting in) because she’s been in Poland. She was invited to help prepare Polish law students for a mock trial that Judge John Marshall , who hails from Texas, holds annually for Lublin’s Maria Curie-Sklodowska University . Expect her back for next week’s show.
For those of you who have never been there, Poland is something that the experienced European traveler shouldn’t miss. It’s inexpensive, it boasts mountains (especially in the south), it has a scenic port (Gdansk) on the Baltic Sea, the city of Krakow is one of Europe’s jewels and Lublin itself boasts some of the friendliest people whom I have ever met. And unlike some other countries, the trains run on time.
Tonight at 6:30 (and 6 p.m. Saturday) on “Movies 101” we discuss four movies — “Basic,” “The Core,” “What a Girl Wants” and “Lost in La Mancha,” the documentary that played this week at The Met. So tune in. All MP’s Polish students would say, prosze (prosheh), which means please. To which I would reply dziekuje (jenkooyah), which means thank you. To them in particular I add a hearty do widzenia (goodbye).
