Something for kids, and for their adults
While today may be Harry Potter day, or as we called it in the 1950s, Halloween, the movie choices are distinctly non-spooky. That is, unless you’re afraid of seeing Meg Ryan wearing only her trademark smile (and maybe not even that).
Ryan stars in Jane Campion’s “In the Cut,” a thriller that stars Ryan as a frustrated writing teacher — are there any other kinds? — who attracts the lustful attention of a cop (Mark Ruffalo) who is investigating a string of murders. Of women. Ooooh, kids, scary.
On Saturday, “Brother Bear” opens — a day late because, so go the reports, Disney didn’t want to open its new animated feature on Halloween.
They must be afraid of what Harry might say.
