‘Bet Your Life’ may be end of careers

Joel Brown New York Times Syndicate

A night of finales — in most cases, welcome ones.

At 8 on NBC it’s “Bet Your Life,” which is the coda to the “Next Action Star” reality series. The game’s two winners, one male and one female, begin and almost certainly end their movie careers in a two-hour TV action flick involving a former pro quarterback, a bounty hunter and an evil mastermind.

Billy Zane is the mastermind. Billy, dude, fire your agent.

At 9 on Fox it’s the final two episodes of “Simple Life 2,” the “Road Trip” installment of Paris and Nicole’s ongoing adventures.

In the first they stop in Texas, help a rancher woo his wife and get jobs at the Sheriff’s Department. Can you see trouble coming?

In the second they face a cattle drive, then head home to glam Los Angeles.

Highlights

ABC at 8: A pair of “My Wife and Kids” reruns, followed by a pair of new episodes of the exhausted “Drew Carey Show.”

“60 Minutes,” CBS at 8: Steve Kroft talks to Clint Eastwood.

“That ‘70s Show,” Fox at 8: When Donna’s mother comes back to town, she ends up in a triangle with Bob and Pamela. That raises the tantalizing possibility of a “Dynasty”-style catfight between guest stars Tanya Roberts and Brooke Shields, but alas this goes unsatisfied. Repeat.

“Smallville,” WB at 8: Back-to-back repeats.

In the first Clark is suspicious when Lana becomes attracted to a fellow student and starts acting up.

In the second Lex locates Morgan Edge (Patrick Bergin) and gets him to admit to his dealings with Lionel.

“Quintuplets,” Fox at 8:30: “Shakespeare in Lust” is about a school production of “Romeo and Juliet” that involves all five kids.

“King of Queens,” CBS at 9: Back-to-back repeats, the second featuring Janeane Garofalo as Doug’s ex-girlfriend.

“Jesus, Mary and Da Vinci,” ABC at 10: Repeat. Elizabeth Vargas looks at “The Da Vinci Code” hoopla in this special that debuted last November.

“48 Hours Investigates,” CBS at 10: Repeat. Murder of a Texas millionaire.

“Law & Order,” NBC at 10: A drug dealer is gunned down, and McCoy’s star witness is too. Repeat.

Family Fare

“The Real Olympics,” KSPS at 8: Part 2 of a show that compares the games then and now, as the latest incarnation gets ready to go in Athens.

Cable Cast

Baseball, ESPN at 4.

“Blazing Saddles” (1974), ABC Family at 8: Just watched the new DVD of this hilarious, raunchy, politically incorrect comedy. Will the campfire scene make the cut on the Family Channel? What about the N-word?

“Six Feet Under,” HBO at 9: What’s up with Claire and Edie, anyway? Repeat of Sunday’s episode.

“Entourage,” HBO at 10: Jimmy Kimmel and his real-life squeeze, Sarah Silverman, guest on this repeat of Sunday’s episode. Followed at 10:30 by a repeat of “Da Ali G Show.”

“The Ashlee Simpson Show,” MTV at 10:30: Normally we don’t recommend the reality shows trailing Ashlee or big sister Jessica (who’s on at 10). But since Ashlee had the No. 1 record in the country last week, maybe we better. Tonight she’s on a promo tour for the CD, “Autobiography.”
