Area students earn honors at North Idaho College

Area North Idaho College students recently earned honors for excellence in communication. The Achievement and Excellence in Communication Award was created last year to honor students who excel in communications and to provide them with a certificate that could be used as a reference to validate their competence in the field of communications. Eligible students must complete a minimum of nine credits and earn a letter grade of B or better in communications courses at NIC.

Recipients and their hometowns are listed.

ConnieLynn Fry, Coeur d’Alene, recently attended the Global Young Leaders Conference held in Washington D.C. and New York City.

Fry was nominated by the College Board to represent the United States at the conference and was then selected by a conference committee to attend the August 2004 session.

During the 12-day event, Fry was among 350 outstanding scholars from across the globe who had the opportunity to take part in carefully designed leadership skills curriculum and to interact with key leaders and newsmakers in learning to study and resolve global conflict. The conference ended with the Global Summit, which allowed students to apply their learned leadership skills through debate, negotiations and by building coalitions dealing with issues of foreign aid, terrorism, human rights and global warming.

Fry is the daughter of Judy and Kirk Fry of Coeur d’Alene.

•Dr. Bill Prosser, a humanities and Advanced Placement and honors literature teacher at Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, was chosen and recently participated in the annual reading and scoring of the College Board’s AP Examinations in English literature in June.

Prosser was among the more than 6,000 readers selected from universities and high schools to evaluate approximately 1.9 million examinations in 19 disciplines. The AP Program is sponsored by the College Board and gives more than a million high school students the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses and to possibly earn credit or advanced placement upon entering college.

Prosser has 27 years of teaching experience and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Pacific University, an Master of Arts in English from Arizona State University and a Master of Education from the University of Idaho.
