Donations double center’s supply of wheelchairs

The Spokesman-Review

Cancer Patient Care’s request for more wheelchairs has brought an outpouring of donations.

CPC Executive Director Heidi Cook said the nonprofit organization has received nearly 40 wheelchairs in the past two weeks, doubling its supply, which had dwindled to two earlier this summer.

The wheelchairs are loaned to low-income patients who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Each month, the paid staff sees between 200 and 300 people who meet the income guidelines.

Anyone interested in donating wheelchairs can drop them off at Cancer Patient Care, 1507 E. Sprague Ave., or call 456-0446.

The nonprofit group also accepts shower and transfer benches, walkers, crutches, canes, hospital beds and other equipment to aid cancer patients. Food supplements (preferably Boost or Ensure) also are needed.
