GU music department plans dedication of rehearsal hall

The Gonzaga University music department will host a dedication ceremony and reception for its new choral rehearsal hall, the Saint Gregory Choral Hall, at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The event is free and open to the public.

The facility at 128 E. Boone Ave. will be dedicated in honor of St. Gregory the Great, the patron saint of singers and teachers and the legendary compiler of Gregorian chant. He was elected pope on Sept. 3, the date of the dedication, and this year marks the 1,400th anniversary of his death.

The new hall is the former Airgas Dry Ice facility. Its former storage room has superior acoustic qualities, offering the Gonzaga choirs an excellent environment in which to prepare for the performances they offer audiences in Spokane, the Western United States and Europe.
