Actually, when it comes to ‘prophet,’ Dylan’s at a loss
Bob Dylan‘s songs may have spoken for a generation in the 1960s, but he never saw himself as anything more than a mere musican. “I never wanted to be a prophet or a savior,” Dylan tells Ed Bradley in an interview to air Sunday on CBS’ “60 Minutes.”
“Elvis, maybe. I could see myself becoming him. But prophet? No.”
In his first TV interview in 19 years, Dylan said such talk made him feel like an “impostor.”
“It was like being in an Edgar Allan Poe story and you’re just not that person everybody thinks you are, though they call you that all the time,” he said.
Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” was just named top song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine – which he also downplays.
“You know, the list, they change names … quite frequently, really. I don’t pay much attention to that,” says the 63-year-old singer, who recently published his memoir, “Chronicles: Volume One.”
No, no, no, it ain’t Bob, babes
Julia Roberts‘ new twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, may wail at times, but their taste in music is sure to be mellow.
The “Pretty Woman” star tells the New York Daily News that she relaxed during her pregnancy by singing Joni Mitchell and Dave Matthews songs to them.
They always look so innocent
Actress Laura Dern and musician Ben Harper (Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals) are the parents of a baby girl.
The couple’s daughter was born last month at Dern’s Los Angeles home, her spokeswoman said. A name wasn’t released.
Dern, 37, and Harper, 35, who are engaged, also have a son, Ellery Walker, who was born in 2001.
River deep, mountain Heidi
Tina Turner, who celebrated her 65th birthday last month, is enjoying her quiet life in Switzerland.
“Switzerland is wonderful,” she says. “I love the people, the lakes, the mountains – simply everything.”
Turner, who recently released a new CD, also will star as the Indian goddess Shakti in Ismail Merchant‘s upcoming film “The Goddess.”
From Shakti to shock-tease
Christina Aguilera has journeyed to India in search of inspiration for her new album.
The pop tart, sporting a glamorous blond Marilyn Monroe ‘do, briefly met with fans at a Mumbai hotel before heading off to the exclusive resort of Sahara Lake City, a specially constructed hilltop community.
“India has always captured my imagination with its myriad cultures and spiritualism,” Aguilera said. “I’m very glad to come here. It is a beautiful country, and I’m enjoying every bit of it.”
But will her voice again go AWOL?
Ashlee Simpson is getting behind the mike again – only this time, she’s promising it will be live.
Simpson, whose lip-synch-gone-awry on “Saturday Night Live” in October made her an instant punch line, will headline an America Online concert Monday in Los Angeles that will be broadcast live on AOL’s radio network and also for its broadband customers.
