Noland’s basket lifts Lakeside to victory

Joel Noland’s 6-foot bank shot lifted host Lakeside to a 55-54 non-league boys basketball victory over Freeman at Nine Mile Falls.

Down by one with seconds left, the Class 2A Eagles had the ball underneath their basket to set up the winning shot.

The Scotties played shorthanded. Freeman’s football team lost to Royal on Saturday in the state Class 1A football championship. Players from the football team began basketball turnouts Monday.

Malcom Solberg led Freeman with 18 points.

In other games: Deer Park 72, Kellogg 69: Lance Selle and Kevin McNeil combined to hit 10 of 14 shots from beyond the 3-point arc to lead the Stags at home. Selle, who was 6 for 8 on long-distance shots, finished with 20 points to lead the Stags. McNeil finished with 18. Jacob Conboy had 17 points to lead Kellogg, which scored 30 in the fourth quarter to cut into a 12-point Deer Park advantage. … Garfield-Palouse 55, Potlatch 35: The Vikings opened up a 10-point lead after one quarter in Palouse and never looked back. Garrett Parrish scored 18 points and handed out 11 assists to lead Garfield-Palouse, with Mike Rosser and Luke Louden each adding 15 points. Steven Sapp paced the Loggers with 14. … Newport 50, Timberlake 44: Brad Stratton pumped in five 3-pointers, en route to 18 points to lead the Grizzlies at home. David McFall added 16 points and blocked four Timberlake shots. Jarrett Thompson’s 13 points paced the Tigers.

Kettle Falls 72, Curlew 54: The Bulldogs shot 58 percent from the floor (32 of 55) on the road to down the Cougars. Brandon Holibaugh’s 20 points led the way, with Zac Barber adding another 16. Cody Groth scored 17 to lead the Cougars. … Rosalia 34, Davenport 29: Sophomore Nate Bailey’s nine points led the Spartans to the victory over the host Gorillas. Sophomore Kyle Nelson led all scorers with 15 points for the Gorillas. … Pullman 59, Colfax 43: The Greyhounds got off to a fast start at home and rolled to the non-league victory.

Valley Christian 74, Northport 51: Nick Crooks scored 19 points and Seth Altmeyer added another 11 as the Panthers cruised to a non-league win at home. Sam Burke led the Mustangs with 17 points. … Sprague-Harrington 49, St. George’s 46: The Falcons got their first win of the season at Sprague. Ty Hatcher led Sprague-Harrington with a dozen rebounds. Henry Butler scored 18 points to lead all scorers for the Dragons. … Lake Roosevelt 54, Wilbur-Creston 51: Neil Johnson grabbed eight rebounds and scored 18 points to lead the host Raiders past the Wildcats at Coulee Dam. Michael Johnson and Cade Anderson each scored 11 points to pace the Wildcats.

Idaho

Geoff Gregory buried a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left to secure a 43-42 home-court, non-league win for Priest River over Lakeland.

Gregory finished with a team-high 11 points, with Jeremy Patterson adding six points – all on fourth-quarter 3-pointers.
