The Spokesman-Review

A fire district in Spokane County will get nearly $40,000 of grant money.

Spokane County Fire District 11, which serves Rockford and surrounding rural areas south of Spokane Valley, will use the money to buy safety equipment such as air packs that firefighters use when they go into a burning building. The district also proposed using some of the money to replace fire hoses used to fight fires, according to the fire department.

The $38,871 grant was given by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It is part of an ongoing effort to assist fire departments throughout the country.

In the latest round of grants, $10 million was awarded to 136 fire departments throughout the United States, according to a press release from the Department of Homeland Security.
