Cook’s Country offers homey fare

Washington Post

Out of the test kitchen at Cook’s Illustrated magazine comes Cook’s Country, a folksy bimonthly sister publication to the how-to magazine from editor and publisher Christopher Kimball.

The food is strictly homey, country-style fare. Reader recipes and tips run cover to cover. The charter issue, for example, includes a recipe contest for potato casseroles (a cheese-filled Italian potato cake from a Massachusetts woman took the $500 grand prize), a slimmed-down version of a Tennessee reader’s favorite chocolate pudding and a pot-roast makeover.

Cook’s Country is available at newsstands and select bookstores for $4.95. Also available by subscription ($19.95 for six issues; call 800-526-8447 or see www.cookscountry.com).
