Woman arrested for drug possession

A young mother was arrested Wednesday morning after she allegedly dropped a small bag containing methamphetamine on the floor of her son’s day care.

An employee at the day care found the bag and called police, said Spokane Valley Police Department spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan in a press release. The employee told police that the woman, identified as 23-year-old Linda M. Franklin, seemed jittery and was unable to put her son’s pants on.

The employee saw the bag drop to the floor as Franklin left the day care, said Reagan. Police contacted Franklin at the Echo Clinic, where she works as a certified nurse assistant. She began crying and confessed to buying the drug three days earlier, Reagan said. She had apparently been carrying the bag in her sock.

Franklin was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Man robs Dollar Store

A man ran out of Spokane Valley store with more than $300 in cash Wednesday afternoon after distracting a clerk.

The man approached the checkout counter at the Dollar Store, 9311 E. Montgomery Ave., and handed the clerk a $1 bill to pay for a 34-cent bottle of water, said Spokane Valley Police Department spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan in press release. When the clerk opened her till to make change, the man lunged over the county and grabbed a handful of cash from the open money drawer.

The clerk described the man as about 27 years old, 5 foot 9 inches tall with a shaved head and a light brown mustache, Reagan said. He was wearing a black T-shirt and black jeans. He left the store heading west.

Paladin Realty robbed

Financial files, company checks and several business licenses were stolen from a realty office overnight Monday in Spokane Valley.

The owner of Paladin Realty, 306 N. Pines Road, discovered the items missing and called police, said Spokane Valley Police Department spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan in a press release. The back door of the business had been pried and kicked open.

The burglar left behind several items usually of interest to thieves, including computers, stereo equipment and a television. It also appears that the burglar was searching the office for a safe, Reagan said.

Police were able to lift fingerprints from several items in the office. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
