NBC moves ‘Next Action Star’ to Wednesdays

With the reality dud “Next Action Star” providing only limited lead-in to the vastly more successful “Last Comic Standing,” NBC has juggled its Tuesday and Wednesday schedules.

“Next Action Star,” a series from movie producer Joel Silver (“The Matrix,” “Die Hard”) in which male and female contestants compete to win a role in a TV movie, has been shunted off to Wednesdays at 8 p.m.

Replacing it on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. will be repeats of the previous week’s “Last Comic Standing,” which NBC hopes will provide a more compatible lead-in to the new episodes that night at 9. (Those repeats previously aired in the 8 p.m. Wednesday time slot.)

Through its first three weeks, “Last Comic Standing” is averaging 9.28 million viewers, up from the 8.3 million it averaged in its first season. That has helped carry NBC to several summer wins among adults aged 18 to 49, the network’s demographic of choice.

But “Next Action Star” has averaged only 5.17 million viewers, leaving “Last Comic” to mostly fend for itself.
