CCS picks cross country, track coach

Erik Anderson has been hired as the head cross country coach for both the men’s and women’s teams for the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Anderson, who will also serve as a track and field assistant coach, was the head cross country and track and field coach at Clark College since 1999. He was an assistant coach at CCS from 1996 to 1999.

Anderson is a four-time conference coach of the year. His women’s cross country teams won conference titles in 2002 and 2003 as did his 2003 women’s track and field team.

Anderson will be a faculty member in the physical education department at Spokane CC.

Golf

Coeur d’Alene High School golfers Ryan Morton and Russell Grove will play for the University of Idaho this fall.

Morton is a three-time placer in the state tournament, including a title in the 5A division. Groves was third in the State 5A tournament and was district champion as a senior and junior.

Also, Carrie Degree, a 2004 graduate of Gonzaga University and a Bend Ore., native, joins the Vandals program as an assistant coach.

Volleyball

Jody Paperno Garry has been hired as an assistant volleyball coach by Washington State University. Most recently, she was an assistant coach at Idaho State. She will be the primary recruiting coordinator for WSU, according to a school press release.

Garry, originally from California, was an all-conference outside hitter at the University of North Dakota and played there during the 1992-95 seasons.

Softball

North Idaho College women’s assistant softball coach Denise Devereaux has been named head softball coach at Lake City High School.

Devereaux was an assistant coach at North Idaho College for six seasons.
