Stevenson leads RiverHawks to victory

Designated hitter Ryan Stevenson went 2 for 2, driving in two runs and scoring twice as the Spokane RiverHawks won 7-2 to take the opener of a Pacific International League baseball doubleheader with the Portland Kings Thursday at Spokane Falls Community College.

Tyler French got the win, going six strong innings, allowing one earned run on five hits, walking three and striking out seven.

Kings starter Steven Short took the loss, allowing seven hits and three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.

In the first game, the RiverHawks started early, scoring two in the first inning and two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Up 5-1 in the fifth inning, the RiverHawks iced the game as Josh Sidwell singled and Eric Cannon grounded into a fielder’s choice, each driving in a run.

The second game was not reported.

Spokane has today off before opening a three game set Saturday against Bellingham at SFCC.
