Sparks run winning streak to five games

Lisa Leslie had 18 points and 10 rebounds Friday night, giving the Los Angeles Sparks a season-high five-game winning streak with a 66-61 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars at San Antonio.

The Sparks also got 17 points from Mwadi Mabika and Tamika Whitmore added 10. Nikki Teasley had eight assists.

San Antonio, which lost its fourth straight, was led by LaToya Thomas, who tied a season high in points with 19. Agnieszka Bibrzycka, starting in place of injured Marie Ferdinand, had 14 points, while Tai Dillard had a career-high 11, going 5 for 5 from the field.

Lynx 61, Mercury 59: At Minneapolis, Minnesota’s reserves helped lead the biggest comeback in franchise history, with the Lynx erasing a 20-point second-half deficit in a victory over Phoenix.

Monarchs 85, Sun 70: At Uncasville, Conn., Kara Lawson had 21 points and made all eight of her shots from the floor to lead Sacramento to a win over Connecticut. Lawson’s first five shots were 3-pointers and her eight field goals were a career high. The victory snapped the Sun’s six-game winning streak.
