Chiefs to play in Everett preseason tourney
The Spokane Chiefs will be working over Labor Day weekend, as the Western Hockey League Western Conference Champion Everett Silvertips announced they will host an inaugural Pre-Season Tournament at the Everett Events Center Sept. 3-5.
The Chiefs will play three games in the six-team, nine-game tournament: Friday against host Everett; Saturday against Portland; and Sunday against Tri-City. The other participating teams are Vancouver and Seattle.
“The Red Deer Rebels and Moose Jaw Warriors have agreed to an eight-player trade.
The Rebels gave up their only player with WHL experience, 16-year-old defenseman Dan Mercer. Young forwards Kris Gomez, Blake Barkwell and Jacob Dietrich, all 17-year-olds, were also shipped to the Warriors.
In return, the Rebels received brothers Pierre-Paul Lamoureux, a 17-year-old defenseman, and Mario Lamoureux, 16, forward, along with Kyle Klym, 15, and Tanner Gillies, 17.
“The Brandon Wheat Kings announced that general manager and owner Kelly McCrimmon will serve as head coach of the Western Hockey League club for the 2004-2005 season.
