GU’s Morgan falls, but Fern in PNGA final
Renee Skidmore of Everett, Wash., defeated Gonzaga University sophomore-to-be Mary Kate Morgan of Longview, Wash., 5 and 3 Friday in the 36-hole final of the 103rd Pacific Northwest Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship at the Bend (Ore.) Golf and Country Club.
Skidmore earned a spot in the final by defeating second-seeded Katie Brophy of Spokane 3 and 2 in their morning quarterfinal match. Morgan defeated Ellie Brophy 1 up in their quarterfinal match.
Meanwhile, John Fern of Spokane’s Manito Golf & Country Club and Washington State University has advanced to today’s 36-hole match play men’s final at Overlake Golf & Country Club in Bellevue and will meet Liam Kendregan of Gresham, Ore.
Fern defeated John Cassidy III of Yelm, Wash., in a 20-hole match in the morning quarterfinal round, then defeated Jeffery Hansen of Eugene, Ore., 6 and 5 in the semifinal round.
