Her movie’s a pumpkin, but it’s not Duff’s fault

Dan

How many times do we have to sit through another “Cinderella” story? Wasn’t “Ever After” based on the “Cinderella” legend? Wasn’t “Ella Enchanted” ? And now we have Hilary Duff in something called “A Cinderella Story,” just in case you didn’t get the message. It’s not as if the movie doesn’t have its charms, one of them being Duff, who is cute and has the appearance of being a real high school girl instead of someone auditioning for an anorexia calendar. (Of course, there’s no way that any guy, especially a football captain, is going to ignore her just because she works in a diner. Get real.)

No, besides lacking originality, the movie’s real problem is that it just can’t stop. The evil stepmom is about as appetizing as a broccoli burrito, and the stepsisters have as much class as Carrot Top . And didn’t we do the passing gas gag in that abomination “Dumb and Dumberer”? They should have just stuck with Duff. You have to wonder why Disney ever let her get away .
