Fest will aid Loon Lake Historical Society projects
The Loon Lake (Wash.) Historical Society will hold its 10th annual Loon Lake Old Schoolhouse Summer Fest Aug. 6 through 8.
Events begin Friday evening at 7 p.m. with wine tasting and silent auction at the Old Schoolhouse, 4000 Colville Road at Loon Lake. Tickets are $7.50; participants must be 21.
Items up for bid include a variety of antiques and collectibles, art by local artists, and wines from the Latah Creek Winery.
Proceeds will help the Loon Lake Historical Society fund maintenance projects.
The fun continues at the Old Schoolhouse on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a craft fair and historical display.
Additional offerings at the festival include a display by the Inland Empire Steam Buffs on the baseball field at the new Loon Lake School on Saturday; a quilt show, hosted by the Schoolhouse Quilters, in the new school Saturday and Sunday, with a raffle Sunday at 2 p.m.
An Open Old Car Show will be between the new and old schoolhouses on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a pancake breakfast hosted by the Loon Lake Property Owners Association will be served at the Old Schoolhouse from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

Libraries receive donation
The Neill Public Library, Pullman, and the Whitman County Libraries in Colfax and Rosalia, Wash., have recently received a $1,600 grant to be used for the purchase of books on grieving.
The Friends of Hospice, a nonprofit organization that supports the Whitman Hospice program, granted the gift for the purchase of materials with the hope to comfort and educate grieving community members.
