KPBX concert tonight at The Met

The Spokesman-Review

Sandpoint pianist Scott Kirby headlines “American Journey,” this year’s KPBX-FM Underwriter and Volunteer Thank-You Concert tonight at 7:30 at The Met.

Kirby, director of the Rocky Mountain Ragtime Festival and Institute, is a renowned interpreter of the piano music of Scott Joplin and Eubie Blake. He has recorded the complete rags of Joplin and appeared at ragtime festivals in the United States and Europe.

In recent years he has also earned attention for his original compositions in the modern, ragtime-related “Terra Verde” (green earth) style, with ties to such European Romantics as Chopin and Schumann.

Also performing will be the Spokane Brass Works, a brass quintet plus percussion made up of Spokane Symphony members, and Linda Parman and Don Thomsen, who play a variety of traditional American music styles.

Tickets are $12 ($10 for Spokane Public Radio members). For information call 328-5729 or (800) 328-5729.
