Ride to aid Cancer Patient Care
The 11th annual Loreen Miller Bike Ride to benefit Cancer Patient Care will be next Sunday beginning at Mt. Spokane High School.
Frankie Andreu will be joining the more than 1,000 expected riders this year.
Andreu is a retired cyclist and currently the U.S. Postal Service Team race director. He has competed in the Tour de France nine times, a current American record; two Olympic Games, one in 1988, where he placed eighth, and the other in the 1996 Atlanta games, where he placed fourth; as well as numerous World Cup events, World Championships, and Spring Classics. Riders may choose from a variety of routes and start times: the century route (64.8 miles) begins at 8 a.m.; the half-century (34.55 miles) starts at 9 a.m.; and a family ride (12 miles), begins at 10 a.m.
Registration will be at 7 a.m.

In addition to the ride, a dinner and presentation given by Andreu will be Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the school, 6015 E. Mount Spokane Park Drive, Mead.
The event includes a behind-the-scenes look at the Tour de France with a slideshow and includes a carbo-load dinner catered by David’s Pizza and Luigi’s Italian Restaurant. Tickets are $30.
Golf benefit
Proceeds from the ninth annual Spokane Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Golf Tournament on June 18 will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Association members are extending an invitation to players from other professions to compete in the tournament and to participate in minitournaments against teams from similar occupations.
Tee time is 1:30 p.m. at Indian Canyon Golf Course; a banquet dinner will follow.
Admission is $75 per player and includes 18 holes, a golf cart and dinner.

Craft sale and silent auction
The fifth annual craft sale and silent auction for CORD (Coalition of Responsible Disabled) will be at the Spokane Valley Toys ‘R Us on the corner of Sullivan and Broadway.
Proceeds will be used to build wheelchair ramps and install other assistive technology.
A variety of craft merchants and their goods will be available on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
CORD is a nonprofit, nonresidential center for people with disabilities that advocates independent living and improved quality of life in the Inland Northwest.

Bow-tie affair
Spokane Valley Community Center’s first bow-tie affair will take place June 19.
The evening includes dinner, live music and a no-host bar as well as a chance to win a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche.
Events begin at 6 p.m. and will be in the banquet room at Decades, 10502 E. Sprague Ave.
Proceeds will benefit the community center, a nonprofit, nondenominational agency founded in 1987 by Spokane Valley churches. The agency provides assistance and educational programs to low-income people.

Fund-raising dessert
A free dessert to benefit the Spokane Valley’s Pregnancy Resource Center will be hosted by Life Services of Spokane at the Mirabeau Park Hotel, 1100 N. Sullivan Road.
The event will include speaker Lonna Vopat on Friday.
Vopat, the current Mrs. Idaho Globe 2003 and former Mrs. Idaho America 2002, will discuss her tragic childhood and her struggle to find love and acceptance through drugs, alcohol and other harmful decisions.
Dessert will be served at 7 p.m.

The Blanchard, Idaho, Daze Committee will hold an auction on Saturday to raise money for the Blanchard Daze Celebration in late August.
The event will take place at the Blanchard Fire Station on Highway 41 beginning at 11 a.m.
