Ready for shipment

The 49-bell carillon at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Spokane hail from the John Taylor & Co. foundry in Loughborough, England. Pictured here in October 1968, several of the bells were headed for the S.S. Sienna to be shipped via the Panama Canal to the United States. The lead bell was the largest and named “Great John” after the patron saint of the cathedral.
